Enhanced Coverage for Pilots with the NEW Teamsters VIP+ Plan

The NEW Teamsters VIP+ Plan now offers coverage for pilots who face license revocation due to medical disqualification by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Pilots are required to comply with FAA regulations, necessitating the submission of a current medical certificate to the appropriate aviation authorities. If your pilot license is revoked due to medical reasons, the VIP+ Plan can offer financial support while you undergo medical evaluation and work toward reinstating your qualification.

The standards for medical certification are contained within the Federal Aviation Regulations (14 CFR Part 67). Pilots with certain medical conditions outlined in these standards are disqualified from flying. These conditions include personality disorders manifested by overt acts, psychosis, alcoholism, drug dependence, epilepsy, unexplained disturbances of consciousness, myocardial infarctions, angina pectoris, and diabetes requiring medication for control. Other conditions like acute infections, anemia, and peptic ulcers may be temporarily disqualifying. Pilots who don’t meet medical standards may still qualify under special issuance provisions or through exemptions, which might require additional medical information or practical flight tests.

Coverage for Known Conditions: The Federal Aviation Regulations prohibit pilots with current medical certificates from performing crewmember duties if they have a known medical condition or if there’s an increase in a known medical condition that would prevent them from meeting the medical certificate standards.
