Enhanced Coverage for Pilots with the NEW Teamsters VIP+ Plan
The NEW Teamsters VIP+ Plan now offers coverage for pilots who are held out of work due to a loss of their Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Medical Certification (Class 1 and Class 2 Certifications) resulting from a disability. Pilots must comply with FAA regulations to be cleared to do their occupation. If you cannot maintain the necessary medical certification, the VIP+ Plan can offer financial support while you undergo medical evaluation and work toward being released to return to work.
The standards for medical certification are contained within the Federal Aviation Regulations (14 CFR Part 67, Subpart B & C). The Teamsters VIP+ Plan protects pilots with those medical conditions that disqualify them from flying as outlined in these standards. These conditions include personality disorders manifested by overt acts, psychosis, alcoholism, drug dependence, epilepsy, unexplained disturbances of consciousness, myocardial infarctions, angina pectoris, and diabetes requiring medication for control. Other conditions like acute infections, anemia, and peptic ulcers may be temporarily disqualifying. The FAA medical re-certification process can be slow and cumbersome, and receiving income replacement benefits during that time is crucial to ensuring your financial well-being so you can focus on returning to work.
